[edit] The video player isn't appearing on the screen, What's wrong?

First, make sure the video was not removed. If it was removed, you will only see a still image and a red banner at the top saying "This Media is Licensed and no longer available. Please support the license holders!". This means that no one can watch those videos here no matter what you do.

If you just see a still image where the video is supposed to be and/or are getting a message saying "Sorry, you can't watch this in your region". Then that could mean that the country you live in is blocked from watching that video.

  • Japanese ISPs have completely blocked Crunchyroll so if you live in Japan you will always get that message for all videos on our site. The only other times people will see that message is on special shows that companies have allowed us to stream on our site as long as we only distribute in certain countries. So in short, if you get that message, you can't watch that video here.
  • Korea has been blocked due to pressure from Korean Broadcast companies. We're not sure if this will be permanent, sorry.
  • Certain videos are restricted to only being watched by people from people in certain Regions/Countries. These are videos where we have a deal with a distributor to host them here. Since the distributor only has rights to distribute in certain countries, most other countries are blocked for those specific videos. Most of those types of videos are listed on this page: http://www.crunchyroll.com/store

If there is a completely blank area where the video is supposed to be and you are using Firefox with the Adblock extension, you may have blocked the videos from appearing by accident. Adblock shows a "Block" icon on the top corner of all Flash media so that you can block it if it's an advertisement you don't want to see. To check if the crunchyroll video player is blocked, you'll have to go to Tools > Adblock. Here a window will pop up showing you the list of items that are blocked. Usually there are a lot of entries under where it says "Filter Subscription", ignore that and look for any entries above it that says "crunchyroll" and delete them. If you did find any and deleted them, hit "Ok" and try to load another video.

If none of that is the case, you may need to make sure JavaScript is enabled on your browser, uninstall Flash by downloading/using the Flash Uninstaller, and reinstall the latest version of Flash.

If none of this works, you can try emailing Support@crunchyroll.com with a detailed description of the problem you are having.

[edit] Why does the video stop playing half way?

A video could only load partially if you have an unstable internet connection. This means that the video started loading but your internet cut off momentarily and severed the connection to download the video. If this happens to you, you should be able to reload the page and skip past the parts you already saw by using the Video Player's scroll bar (slider) to click on whatever point that you left off on.

[edit] Why is part of the video cut off while it's playing and why can't I see the video player's control bar?

This is most likely due to the browser being zoomed out a little. To watch the video properly, you'll need to reset the Zoom level on your browser to 100%. The easy way to do this on all browsers is to press "Ctrl+0" (The number Zero). Then you just have to reload the page and it will display as it should.

[edit] A video is labeled incorrectly. How do I fix it?

You must post in the appropriate thread which I will link to here or go to the staff page and contact a Media Moderator directly.

[edit] Why are some videos, that are available on other streaming sites, not available on Crunchyroll?

We have to comply with DMCA notices from companies that send us requests to take down their videos. The reason other sites still have them up would be because either they weren't notified or they are defying DMCA copyright laws. For indepth detail on our policy you can look at this link.

[edit] My player loads, but a message tells me that the video can't be found. What's wrong?

Either one of the video servers is down, too many people are requesting the video causing it to timeout or the video is in the process of being removed. You can report videos that aren't working in this thread.

[edit] What is this "Crunch it!" button for?

Crunching a video simply means that you watched and liked it. The more crunches, the more popular the show is. To accurately gage how popular the video is, you would also have to factor in the length of time the video has been on the site. If it has 100 Crunches and has only been up for an hour, that would make it is more popular than a video that's been up for a month and has the same 100 Crunches.

[edit] Can we download videos from the site?

Downloading is only allowed on a few select series with permission from the company that produces it and is only obtained after a monetary transaction. Prices vary depending on the video.

[edit] Can I make video streaming faster?

As long as you have a fast internet connection, it will stream as fast as the server can handle. If there are a lot of people watching videos on the site while you are, it might be slower than normal.

[edit] Why doesn't the full screen function work on my computer?

Full screen requires a browser than allows you to Right-click on the video since the option for Fullscreen is within the menu that pops up from right-clicking. The only browser I know that has a problem with this is the previous versions of Opera, the latest version should work fine.

[edit] What's the difference between High Quality and H264?

Both qualities are roughly the same filesize but H264 encoding is usually better than High Quality because of the way it encodes the videos. It can achieve about twice the quality of a High Quality video but uses more of your computers power to render the video. In some rare cases, H264 encoding has errors on the video, so for those you'd have to use High Quality.

[edit] Why is H264 not available for all videos?

Some videos are not able to be encoded by H264 encoder or were originally low quality flash videos which won't gain anything with h264 encoding.

[edit] The video keeps on getting cut midway. What's wrong?

This could be an error with your internet connection being unstable and cutting off midway. You may have to reload the page at that point to reload the video.

[edit] Can I get updates on when a certain series I'm watching gets a new episode?

When you add a series as a Favorite, you get a pop up asking if you want to get email notifications when new episodes release. So just click yes and you'll get these updates.
This function is Currently Disabled: Email notifications will not be sent out.

[edit] How do I favorite a video or series?

To add a video as a favorite you just have to go to the video's page and click on the 'Favorite It' button. You can also go to the CRseries Group page, click the 'Favorite It' button and/or join the series group by clicking 'Join this group!'. By joining a series group, you are allowed to post in it and have it linked to your profile that you are a member of it.

[edit] I'm experiencing dual audio in one of the videos. How do I turn this off?

Dual audio is usually in Chinese shows where both Mandarin and Cantonese are spoken, there is no option to turn this off since the original video that was uploaded has both audios playing at the same time. There's nothing we can do about this, unless someone finds and uploads a version with only one audio in it.

[edit] What is the "upload subtitles for this video" link for?

That is a feature for uploading subtitles for videos that don't have subtitles or have inaccurate subtitles. This is to only be used by people with at least some understanding of how to create subtitle files and how they work.

[edit] Can I share a video with a friend?

Yes you can share a video easily by clicking the 'Share Video' button/link where you can input usernames and emails, separating them with commas. This will send a message with the link to the video to all of the people listed.

[edit] I would like to moderate a CR Series group, Can I?

Currently, only the users on the staff page are allowed to moderate those. We might start allowing other user's to moderate them though, as long as they are dedicated to it and helping out.

[edit] Why does a Series have a group page but no videos in it?

These are usually empty because the videos were removed from the site.

[edit] Why was a whole series or movie removed?

Series and movies are either removed at the request of the companies that own them, if it contained too much sexual content, if there was an issue with the video quality or at the request of fansubbers who don't want their work on streaming sites like this. If it was removed, it most likely won't be brought back unless otherwise stated.

[edit] What does it mean when it says "Please support the license holders"?

That means the videos were removed due to a request from a company that owns the licensing rights to distribute the series or movie. These will no longer be allowed on the site.

[edit] Why does the video never loads and all I see is a picture on the show?

This is most probably because the flash storage settings do not allow crunchyroll to store information on your computer.

You can change the settings at this page: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html

Locate the static.crunchyroll.com entry in the list and allow it at least 1MB of storage.
