Formed under Johnny & Associates in 2003, NewS originally was a 9-member all-boys J-Pop music group.
Takahiro Moriuchi (森内貴寛) left both Johnny's Entertainment and NewS after the release of "NewS Nippon." Making it 8 members.
In 2005, NewS member Uchi Hiroki (under 20 years old the time) was caught publically underage drinking.
In 2006, fellow NewS member Kusano Hironori (also under 20 at the time) was also caught with underage drinking.
For the rest of 2006, NewS was on hiatus.
NewS releases a single, Sayaendo/Hadashi no CINDERELLA BOY featuring the six remaining members.
By the end of 2006, the six members of NewS returns on the annual Johnny's Countdown.
In early 2007, NewS released a new single, Hoshi wo Mezashite (theme song for Japanese Version of Happy Feet).
In 2007, Uchi and Kusano return back dancing to their seniors, SHOUNENTAI in the play, PLAYZONE 2007. Shounentai hopes they will lose their title of trainees by the end of September, when the play ends.

While on hiatus, member Yamashita Tomohisa was put into the group Kitty GYM to promote Women's Volleyball Team in Japan. He was also in the group, Shuji to Akira, with fellow KAT-TUN member, Kamenashi Kazuya. Both were the main leads in the Jdrama, "Nobuta wo Produce."
Also while on hiatus, two singers of NewS, Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda Takahisa formed TegoMass to promote JE internationally.
