Tegoshi turned in his application to Johnny's Entertainment around December 2002, to be one of the "cool guys." In just 10 months he became a part of the group NewS and Tegomass (2006, during NewS's hiatus) along with fellow NewS member Masuda Takahisa. He also has the nicknames Tegoyan made by Ryo Nishikido (another member of NewS and Kanjani 8), Tesshi, and Tegorin.
